Not bad in many ways, but I think even the free version should have at least a very simple form of review. For example you could only show each solution once, perhaps faster than the Pro version, with a chance right there to subscribe — that might get more people to subscribe than the current setup. It is also objectionable that you need Google or Facebook to sign in.

I tried different Go learning apps and this has probably the best learning experience for beginners with decent explanations in English. However, only the basic stuff is free. After the first level you have to pay for practices, and the price is steep compared to other apps. The user interface is built more around a pay-per-feature concept and less around a flexible learning experience. So you feel less in control and more led around by the nose, having to pay here and there for stuff.

I rate the game *with* yearly subscription (30€ right now) at 4-5 stars. they put a lot of work into the app. the ingame currency is a joke selling expensive single-use features that are always used up, so the subscription is the only option. As free player, I'm put off though after solving puzzles for a while. Even the ability to study failed puzzles without the help of an AI requires a subscription. So eventually I would replay the problems from small preview pictures on my own goban. WHY?!

We think it is fair to ask for an optional subscription to help cover the big costs of maintaining a high-quality Tsumego library, running well-tuned Go AIs in the cloud, and updating the app constantly to add features and support more phones and tablets. But we’re always happy to have you as a player even if you choose not to subscribe! 😄
