Voting and Karma:

Instead of likes and hearts, Reddit’s social network runs on upvotes or downvotes. Voting on posts and comments increase or decrease the creator’s karma, and helps popular and relevant posts rise to the top, while filtering out low-quality or irrelevant posts.

While karma doesn't directly impact your ability to use Reddit, more karma can increase posts’ visibility and help you get noticed. Some communities require karma to post or comment, which helps maintain content quality and community standards.

Join the largest social media platform and discover everything that piques your interest!

I got the app because the site is buggy (no way to see chats, pictures don't load after the third image, can't tell how many images in a slideshow, videos don't load or can't be restarted or replayed), but the app is just buggy in new and different ways (randomly jumps from comments to top of post repeatedly, turning off comment notifications doesn't work, says comment doesn't post &trying again posts twice.) So now I hop between both, which is the stupidest way to interact with any technology.

Nice paid-for 5 star reviews! This app's UI is counterintuitive and not designed as well as third party apps that were forced out of existence by Reddit. The number of ads take up more space in my feed than actual content I am subscribed to. Frequent frame drops, stuttering, freezing & crashing when trying to play gifs/videos or launch the app, small buttons in odd places, and overlapping use of gestures (swiping thru photos on a post causing change to Popular feed) make this app hard to enjoy.

It's a decent app but there's a feature that ruins it for me. On Android, if you visit the app through a Google link, then hit back on your device, instead of going back to the search results, the app just takes you back through all the reddit pages you previously had open. This makes browsing Google pages really annoying, I may delete so I can go back to normal web browsing, but they have made that difficult too. Why is there no good way to do this? Edit it's still a thing 1/12/25
