About this app

Signal is a messaging app with privacy at its core. It is free and easy to use, with strong end-to-end encryption that keeps your communication completely private.

• Send texts, voice messages, photos, videos, GIFs, and files for free. Signal uses your phone’s data connection, so you avoid SMS and MMS fees.

• Call your friends with crystal-clear encrypted voice and video calls. Group calls supported for up to 40 people.

• Stay connected with group chats up to 1,000 people. Control who can post and manage group members with admin permission settings.

• Share image, text, and video Stories that disappear after 24 hours. Privacy settings keep you in charge of exactly who can see each Story.

• Signal is built for your privacy. We know nothing about you or who you’re talking to. Our open source Signal Protocol means that we can’t read your messages or listen to your calls. Neither can anyone else. No back doors, no data collection, no compromises.

• Signal is independent and not for profit; a different kind of tech from a different kind of organization. As a 501c3 nonprofit we are supported by your donations, not by advertisers or investors.

I have been using Signal for a fairly long time now and think its great. The only issue I occasionally experience is that notifications can be unreliable at times. Apart from that, its very good! I recently had to transition my chats between devices and found it fairly uncomplicated and reliable (especially in comparison to Whatsapp).

Great messenger, but does not allow you to transfer data from Android to iOS and vice versa. Keep this in mind, if you want to switch in the future... Update 11/24: Has added new unwanted features and keeps bugging me about funding. Backup and restoring are a hassle and, depending on the circumstances, not always possible (e.g. if device is destroyed). Privacy is important but an option to easily backup with encryption should exist across platforms.

Great App but would like to have a tracking feature. Sometime ago we used to use BBM and one of the best features was "Send my location or Follow my location". It was great for families and friends where you can enable it for 5, 15, 30, 60 mins. It would be nice if there is a feature that is similar.

What’s new

★ The new and slightly refreshed Signal logo can help you digitally experience the feeling of seeing a good friend right after they get a haircut (but it's not a completely new hairstyle).
★ Chat folders let you organize your organizations, group your groups, and individualize your individuals into unique folders that are easy to customize and rearrange.
